When the sun is shining and school’s out, football is one of the best ways for children to stay active, have fun and burn off energy. But with rising temperatures across the UK during the summer months, it’s natural for parents to ask…
Is it safe for children to play football in hot weather?
At The Football Fun Factory, the answer is yes, if it’s done the right way. Safety is at the heart of everything we do, and our experienced coaches are fully trained to keep children safe, happy and hydrated in all weather conditions.
Here’s how we make sure every child has fun in the sun, safely.
1. Hydration Comes First
We don’t wait for children to say they’re thirsty. We build regular water breaks into every Football Fun Factory session.
Our coaches encourage children to bring their own water bottles, and we make sure they drink at regular intervals, especially during warmer days. At our summer camps, children are reminded to keep sipping water throughout the day, even when they’re having so much fun they forget.
2. Indoor and Outdoor Options
When it comes to hot weather, flexibility is key, and that’s why The Football Fun Factory offers options for both indoor and outdoor football fun.
Our summer football camps offer inflatable football fun in a safe inclusive environment for children of all abilities. With a long day of football fun to be had, our head coaches will make the call whether to hold this indoors or outdoors depending on the weather. Too hot out? We’ll head inside to keep the energy high and the heat down.
Weekly sessions are held outdoors, but we make sure venues have access to shade and that play is paced appropriately to suit the temperature. With sessions running for an hour, we keep the intensity lower without compromising on fun.
This flexibility helps us adapt quickly to weather conditions while giving families peace of mind that safety always comes first.
3. Clothing and Sun Protection
Before summer sessions and camps, we always share clear guidance with parents about what children should wear in the heat.
We recommend:
- Light, breathable clothing
- A hat or cap for sun protection
- Applying suncream before the session begins
Coaches also keep an eye out for any signs of sunburn, overheating or discomfort, and will always speak to a child’s grown up if needed.
4. Fully Trained, Safety-Focused Coaches
All of our Head Coaches are:
- DBS checked
- Trained in safeguarding
- Emergency first aid qualified
More than that, they are caring, observant and trained to notice if a child is showing signs of overheating or fatigue. At The Football Fun Factory, coaches aren’t just instructors. They are trusted role models who put children’s safety and wellbeing at the centre of everything they do.
5. The Right Kind of Fun
We’re called The Football Fun Factory for a reason. We believe football should be inclusive, exciting and full of joy, and that doesn’t stop in summer.
Instead of overly intense sessions and games, we focus on:
- Low intensity, maximum fun games
- Skill-building games in short bursts
- Group challenges and inclusive play
These lighter, more engaging activities are ideal for warmer days and help reduce physical strain while keeping energy and enthusiasm high.

6. Parents Are Part of the Journey
We’re proud of the open and positive relationship we build with parents.
From session reminders to regular updates, you’ll always know what to expect. You’ll also have the chance to speak directly to your local Head Coach with any questions or concerns. Our sessions are designed to be welcoming and transparent, with safety policies and best practices clearly communicated in advance.
Why Safety in the Sun Matters to Us
Whether it’s sunny, windy or pouring down with rain, your child’s safety will always be our top priority. We want every child to leave our sessions with a smile on their face, a sense of achievement and, most importantly, feeling happy and well looked after.
